Rameswaram
Rameswaram sits at the very tip of Tamil Nadu, where the mainland reaches toward Sri Lanka across shallow turquoise water — nowhere else on this coast feels quite as remote or as sacred. The Ramanathaswamy Temple's endless pillared corridors are among the most striking in South India, and a drive out to the ghost town of Dhanushkodi, where two seas meet, is unlike anything else on a South India itinerary. Stays are simple and pilgrimage-oriented. It's a deeply spiritual, slightly otherworldly trip best suited to travellers drawn to history and devotion.
